Guru Energy Drink Review

I finally found the original Guru energy drink after months of searching for it. The company told me that they were having some distributor problems but I guess that's all fixed now. The good thing is that this is a 355 mL can and not the 250 mL one that I used to by back in the day. Being a bigger can, the price tag is a bit higher at $2.99.

The Guru energy drink is definitely a unique one and that can be easily noticed from the moment you open the can. Instead of the usual whooshing noise, there is silence. The aroma is a blend of light citrus notes, caramel and something else that reminds be of Full Throttle Blue Demon. The taste is unique and not very sweet which makes this easy for me to drink. If I were to try to describe the taste, I would say that it resembles like club soda with a splash of lemon and grape juice. The soda gives the drink a slightly salty initial taste while the lemon and grape juice give it the citric taste as well as a refreshing character. There are absolutely no hints of any of the energy ingredients, such as bitterness or soapiness or a cough syrup-like taste. I love this drink and it makes me sad that I cannot find it in the stores near me. I get at least a can of it every time I see it when I am traveling. The unique taste alone is the reason to try this energy drink.

Guru does not like to announce the amount of caffeine each can contains on the Canadian version of the label, but with a simple Google query, we can find that each 250 mL can contains 125 mg. Taking that and scaling it up to 355 mL, the caffeine content changes to 180 mg, which is absolutely fantastic for a drink of this size. The problem is that other sites claim that this number is lower, as low as 140 mg, which could be correct given that the juice based Guru drinks contain this much. Regardless of the caffeine content, I will grade this based on the energy boost I get. I started to feel awake within 20 minutes of opening the drink and since I drank it slowly, the energy came in gradually at first, but after another 20 minutes I was hit by a wave of energy which resulted in jitters for about 10-15 minutes. What remained after that was an elevated level of energy which lasted for about 2.5 - 3 hours before it slowly started fading just before lunch. I did not experience a crash or sudden exhaustion, I was just back to feeling normal.

Medicinal Ingredients: Guarana, Panax Ginseng, Ginkgo Biloba, Echinacea.

Non-Medicinal Ingredients: sparkling water, organic white grape juice concentrate, organic cane juice concentrate, lemon juice concentrate, natural flavours, salt.
