Del Monte Pure Earth Pineapple Lime Juice

Recently I noticed that Del Monte had started to exhibit some presence on the shelves that are normally reserved for Pom at our local grocery store. Intrigued, I picked up the most interesting sounding bottle - pineapple lime juice. At $2.99, the price is very similar to that of Pom, but is it just as tasty?

The label claims that the juices are pure and not from concentrate. The bottom of the bottle has a but of puree sediment which leads me to believe that Del Monte might be telling the truth. I shook the bottle and let it sit on my desk for a few minutes only to find that things have started to settle again. OK, this is a good indication.

The pineapple/lime juice has a pale yellow color that leads me to believe that no coloring has been injected into it to make it look more appealing. The juice smells like a fresh, sweet pineapple with a sour twist that comes from the lime. The juice is very thick and it is not easy to swish it around in your mouth. The pineapple/lime blend is done very well. You get an instant burst of fresh pineapple, followed by the sour notes of lime that follow right up to the finish. The sour nature of this juice gives the aftertaste a dry, but refreshing effect. The sweetness is perfectly balanced and though the juice is fairly sweet, there is no obvious build up of sweetness. The lime helps bring that down in the aftertaste so you never want to reach for a glass of water to cleanse your palate.

Overall, the juice is pretty damn good and refreshing. With its thick mouthfeel, the juice can almost pass as a meal substitute.

Taste - 9.5/10...going to get the other flavors now
