AMP Energy Boost Original Energy Drink Review

There are a few mainstream energy drinks that I have never reviewed. These include the regular Red Bull, the original Monster and the original AMP. Why? Because I just assumed that everyone has tried them at least once. Older energy drink lovers will recognize that this AMP is a repackaged version of the original one from years back, but since I never reviewed the original one, I thought that the repackaging will be a good time to do so.

Canadian readers - please note that I got this from Michigan and these repackaged cans are not yet available in Canada (at least at the time of this review).

Taste

The taste is almost like a mix between an original Monster and an original NOS, but with more of the Monster flavours. It is sweet and slightly syrupy with strong tropical fruit flavours. The syrupy sweetness sticks to the insides of your mouth and keeps building up until the end of the can. I recommend this to people who like sweet sugary drinks, otherwise if you still want it, you should probably be eating something to absorb the sticky sweetness.

I don't mind the taste as much as I mind the syrupy sweetness.

Energy

There are 142 mg of caffeine in the can which is on the lower end of the 473 mL sized drinks. The kick comes quick, but it is very raw and unrefined. Jitters will be experienced, especially if you down the drink at a relatively quick pace. The caffeine boost lasts for a couple of hours with a mild crash at the end.

Scores:
Cost - $2 from a vending machine
Taste - 8/10
Energy - 7.5/10

Overall - 15.5/20...tastes like a sweet soda and has an OK kick
