Red Bull Energy Shot Review
Well here is something new in the province of Ontario - Red Bell Energy Shot. I started hearing about this last year and I thought I would never see it in Canada. The shot, unfortunately, is more expensive than a regular Red Bull at $3.29 CAD for one shot versus $2.49 CAD for a 250 mL can. You would think that there is more caffeine in the shot, but no, there isn't. There are only 80 mg of caffeine, so what the shot is, is just a condensed version of the popular 250 mL can. This is what Red Rain did with their energy shot, but they charge much less for both the shot and the energy drink.
Does it taste like Red Bull? Well, let me check. Yeah, it kind of does. I am pleasantly surprised. I was expecting something along the lines of how the Red Rain energy shot differs from the regular Red Rain energy drink. Sure the Red Bull energy shot is not carbonated and is a bit sweeter, but there is a slight sour kick, which brings the taste close to the beloved Red Bull taste...at least for me. There is a bit of bitterness, but it is masked by the sweet and sour taste quite well and only emerges while you drink the shot. The moment you swallow, the sour taste takes over. This is probably the best tasting energy shot I have had to date and might be worth the money if you just want the caffeine rush without having to drink a 250 mL can. Also, I would much rather drink this than any other sugar free energy shot. The sugar that one of these little shots could contain is nothing compared to the sugar a 473 mL energy drink contains and will definitely not kill you.
As mentioned earlier, this 59 mL shot contains the same amount of caffeine as a 250 mL can of Red Bull. How did the shot work? Very similarly to how a 250 mL can of Red Bull would. I started to experience the typical Red Bull rush within 10 minutes. Unlike some shots and energy drinks, I felt energized, but not awake or focused. The energy boost lasted for about an hour which is quite comparable to a 250 mL can of Red Bull. So in the end, you just have to ask yourself which would you rather do - drink an entire 250 mL can or just 59 ml shot! Don't forget that the 250 mL can costs less.
Scores:
Cost - $3.29 CAD for a 59 mL shot
Taste - 8/10
Energy - 6/10
Overall - 14/20...lacks caffeine, but it more than makes up for it with its great taste
