Killer Buzz Hybrid Energy Drink Review

Next in line in my fridge was Hybrid from the newly revamped Killer Buzz series.

Taste

Though it seems a bit generic at the start, Hybrid's flavours start to develop after a few sips. You are greeted by a tart cranberry start which quickly transitions to a semi-sweet and creamy mixture of sour berries with cherry and raspberry notes emerging on top. The finish is sweet and sour combination of berries with more of the cranberry flavours appearing.

The aftertaste has a candy-like sweetness, much like the Proto, but sour undertones help balance it out. Cranberry and cherry flavours are present and linger for a while.

Energy

Though there is no indication of the amount of caffeine in the can, a quick Internet search reveals 200 mg...like the Proto. This is on par with Xyience and more than most of the other leading brands - Monster, Rockstar, AMP, Full Throttle and Red Bull.

I found the effects to be a bit slower than the Proto I had last week. It took just over 15 minutes to start feeling the rush, which started with a short focus period of a few minutes, which was then followed by a jittery sugar rush. I didn't feel instantly awake. That part was gradual and occurred over the course of about 5 minutes. At the end I was wired and the energy lasted for almost 4 hours. Yes, there was a bit of a crash at the end, which I balanced out with a strong cup of tea.

Scores:
Cost - unsure
Taste - 9/10
Energy - 8.4/10

Overall - 17.4/20...enjoyable blend of berries with a great kick
