I got this flavour from a convenience store at the Great Lakes Crossing in Auburn Hills when I decided to go on a caffeine run across the border when visiting relatives in Windsor. I was surprised that this cost $4 when the regular Monster flavours were going for only $2. In Canada, the prices are almost identical. I have seen a variance of no more than $0.50, but a $2 difference is very high.
Taste
This one tastes a lot like the Irish Blend at first, but transitions to a sweeter, more toffee-like taste. As all other Java Monsters, the taste is dominated by sweet creaminess and the coffee takes not the backseat, but more like the third row...scratch that, it rolls behind the car. Yep, the coffee taste is almost not here. You get hints of it while drinking, but there isn't much of it. So, if you like to add a cup of cream and sugar to your coffee to kill the taste, this is for you.
Energy
The energy blend is 5,000 mg, but there is no mentioning of how much just the caffeine is. A quick Internet search reveals that the amount is in the 160 mg neighborhood. The kick comes in a bit slow and I didn't feel much for about 15 minutes when the sugar started to show its effects on the body. I felt jittery for a very short period of time, but when that was gone, I felt just energized. The boost lasted for a decent 3.5 - 4 hours and there was no crash at the end.
The rush comes in a bit slow and doesn't provide a raw caffeine boost, but it does the trick in the long run if you enjoy a lot of cream and sugar in your coffee.
Scores:
Cost - $4
Taste - 8/10
Energy - 7.5/10
Overall - 15.5/20...almost no coffee flavour and the energy boost takes its time kicking in
