Xyience Blue Pomegranate Energy Drink

For this new label, Xyience decided to expand the name from "Blue Pom" to "Blue Pomegranate". Good for them and us. Before I get on with the review, I should note that this can came free courtesy of Energy Drink Heaven.

Taste

First off, the color is very interesting. When poured in a clear cup, it is red, like a pomegranate juice, but when you hold it at certain angles, the edges are purple. And not like a light hue, it is purple. The drink smells like a cranberry juice with just some light sweet notes here and there. It also tastes like cranberry juice at the start and for most of the duration of each sip. It has a very light bite in the middle, but mellows out towards the end when sweet notes of blueberries come. Essentially, the cranberry tartness is offset by the blueberry sweetness and vice versa (i.e. the sweetness doesn't build up very much).

The only times I noted any sweeteners was in the aftertaste. The taste has very little of them and you will sense them only if you really focus on them, or are sensitive to sweeteners.

Energy

There are 176 mg of caffeine in the can, which is enough to jolt you within 15 minutes. I started to feel focused within the same time frame and was focused on writing something for the next 15-20 minutes when the caffeine was fully absorbed and making me want to get up and do some physical work. The effects lasted for 3-4 hours and ended with a mild crash. Nothing serious, but I felt a bit tired.

Scores:
