NOS Energy Drink Grape Review

For months I have been telling myself that I will get one of the purple NOS drinks and for months I have been avoiding the 650 mL bottle it comes in. What happened to the cans? I have never seen a purple can, only the bottle. Last night, after filling up at a gas station, I decided to finally get the bottle and just end this. The bottle cost me $3.59 CAD, which is standard for an energy drink this size.

The drink smells like a grape soda with a hint of something that foreshadows its unpleasant energy ingredient taste. The taste is actually not as bad as I had expected it to be. It starts off like a not too sweet grape soda and ends on a much sweeter note, which remains in the aftertaste. The end is where some of those energy ingredients become apparent, but unlike energy drinks like Rockstar, Monster, AMP, Full Throttle, etc., the taste is subtle which does not ruin the overall grape taste. The grape flavour itself, gets sweeter and sweeter as you continue to drink, which I am not a big fan of. On the plus side, the sour taste in the finish and aftertaste also builds up which helps cut the sweetness a little bit. Compared to some other grape flavoured energy drinks like Monster MIXXD (OK, this is not quite grape, but it is close), AMP Traction, Rage Wrath, Jolt Wild Grape and Intense NRG Mix Grape, this one tastes better.

Here is where the 650 mL bottle shines. It contains 343 mg of caffeine, which is always enough to revive a corpse, make it run around in circles thus giving it a heart attack and bringing it back to its original state. The last time I had this much caffeine was from one energy drink, I was uncomfortably energetic the whole day. After consuming a third of the bottle, I started to feel overcome with high levels of energy and some jitters. Half way through the bottle, my legs started to shake. Since this tastes like a grape soda, you really don't notice how quickly you finish the bottle. You realize what you have done once all the caffeine kicks your body up a notch to 11. Does this NOS work? Hell yes, it does. How long did the 343 mg of caffeine last? To me it seemed like an eternity, but in reality the buzz lasted about 5 hours when I got an intense headache worse than any crash I have experienced. How long did the headache last? Quite a while. The drink works, but be careful.
